UCAR Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere and Climate (COSMIC) AWARE Project Reports

The Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere and Climate (COSMIC) Program of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, hosts an NSF American Workforce and Research and Education AWARE) Project with significant student involvement. The COSMIC project uses data from GPS satellites to infer vertical profiles of temperature and moisture across the globe. The COSMIC AWARE program aims to establish linkages among the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), UCAR, and the U.S. university community and educational, research and operational institutions in East Asia. American students and junior researchers are already actively involved in these international cooperative activities in Japan and Taiwan, and reports of their 2004 activities in these sites are now available on-line. A summer camp experience for about fifty students is planned for 2005 (application deadline: 03/04/2005). The URLs below provide direct links to COSMIC AWARE Web sites.
